The state-owned FINA, which is now a leading national company offering
financial services, was established as the successor to the Payment
Transactions Institute (ZAP).
The chairman of the Board of Directors, Djuro Popijac, informed Mesic
of the business results of FINA, which operates following the rules of
a market economy.
FINA, which employes about 5,100 workers and has 187 branches
throughout the country, offers services to banks, the state, business
enterprises and citizens. FINA which has contracts with 37 banks,
carries out 538 transactions for them daily, or 148 million
transactions yearly.
With regard to the state, FINA supports projects of national
importance in public finance and was the main partner in the
implementation of projects in the reform of payment transactions and
pension reform.
In 2002, FINA posted a profit of 65.8 million kuna and a profit of 138
million kuna last year.
During his visit to the main offices of FINA in Zagreb, President
Mesic opened a new Cash Centre with a system for the automatic
processing of deposits which can process up to 75,000 banknotes per
hour.
