told Croatian Television on Tuesday evening.#L#
Asked by the host of the "Forum" programme if he had expected the
European Commission's opinion on Croatia's application for EU
membership to be so positively worded, Zuzul, who spoke from
Strasbourg where he received the EC's opinion earlier in the day, said
he had believed in a favourable avis because of what he had previously
heard about the document. He added though that he was to some extent
surprised by "the general atmosphere in Strasbourg, lack of any
reservations towards Croatia, and statements that Croatia is on the
right track".
The minister said that intensive negotiations were being held with
Great Britain, the Netherlands and Italy, the three EU members which
have not yet ratified the Croatia-EU Stabilisation and Association
Agreement (SAA) and he hoped that they would ratify it soon.
