Asked by reporters whether he would again run in the Croatian
presidential election, Mesic, who was in the western town of Ogulin on
Saturday, said he would seek re-election being proposed by citizens.
In this context he said he believed that several parties, including
the Croatian People's Party's (HNS), would back his candidacy. After
he took office of Croatian President in 2000, Mesic froze his
membership in the HNS.
Asked by reporters on disagreements among HNS members, the head of
state said that quarrels appeared in every party and that this did not
mean that he was distancing himself from the HNS.
