'Avis' for Croatia has been included on the agenda of the Commission
session on Tuesday, April 20, said a European commission official who
wanted to remain anonymous.
It is a practice that the Commission's session are held in Strasbourg
when the European Parliament is in session in the city. The sitting
starts at 13.00 hours and the content of the 'avis' should be made
public late in the afternoon or early in the evening of the same day.
According to unofficial information, prior to the session ICTY Chief
Prosecutor Carla del Ponte will hold talks with representatives of the
European Commission in Brussels.
Cooperation with the Hague tribunal will be one of the key conditions
for receiving a positive 'avis'.
The European Commission will forward its opinion to the European
Council which will then make a final decision on Croatia's application
and set a date for the start of negotiations on full membership,
The next meeting of the European Council (the EU summit) will be held
in Brussels on June 17 and 18.
