ZAGREB, April 2 (Hina) - The Croatian Democratic Union of
Bosnia-Herzegovina has expressed regret at the new indictments which
the UN war crimes tribunal (ICTY) issued against five Croats, so many
years since the war ended, the party says in a statement issued on
Friday.#L#
The indictments have been forwarded to five high-profile Croats in
Bosnia-Herzegovina "who only defended the right of their people to
have freedom, its own homes and families," reads the statement issued
by the party's public relations office in response to the ICTY
indictments against Jadranko Prlic, Bruno Stojic, Valentin Coric,
Slobodan Praljak and Milivoj Petkovic.
The HDZ BiH is convinced that they are innocent and supports their
decision to prove their innocence before the Hague-based UN tribunal.
The five indictees are flying to The Hague for their initial
appearance before the court on Monday.
According to the statement, the party will do its best to enable the
five men to have all legal and other assistance so that they could
easier defend themselves and show the world the truth about the
Homeland Defence War in Bosnia and the role of the Croat Defence
Council (HVO).
The HDZ BiH hopes that the trial of the five newly-indicted Croats
will not be protracted, the party said alluding to the trial of
Bosnian Croats Tihomir Blaskic and Dario Kordic before the same
court.
