Speaking at a news conference on Friday, NHS leader Kresimir Sever
particularly criticised the government's economic policy.
Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has spent one quarter of his term on trips
abroad, seeking support for Croatia's entry in the European Union and
has neglected the country's economic development, Sever said.
The union leader thinks that Deputy Prime Minister Andrija Hebrang,
who is in charge of the economic sector, has forgotten this part of
his duty while focusing his attention on public health.
The union has labelled Economy Minister Branko Vukelic as 'an
invisible minister', and criticised the Finance Minister for failing
to consult social partners before starting preparations for tax
reform.
So far, only Deputy Prime Minster Jadranka Kosor has saved the
government's face at sessions of the Economic and Social Council,
Sever said. He, however, fears that due to accumulation of functions
and duties, she will not be able to devote enough time to talks with
unionists.
The NHS is in general dissatisfied with the current level of social
dialogue. Therefore, a meeting of PM Sanader and union federations'
leaders has been scheduled for 6 April (Tuesday) at the request of
unionists, so as to improve social dialogue.
