Sanader spoke to Croatian reporters in Washington, where on Monday he
is attending a ceremony welcoming seven new countries to NATO, in
reaction to allegations in the Croatian press that he had proposed
Neven Jurica for ambassador to the United States.
Sanader said he could not comment as countries nominating ambassadors
could not publicly speak about the nominees before they received the
agreement of the country the ambassador was being appointed to.
He went on to say it was necessary to change the procedure of
appointing ambassadors. The country the diplomat is to be appointed to
should give its consent first and the proposal then be put to the
Croatian parliament's committee on foreign affairs, he said.
