On Wednesday and Thursday Croatia's PM held talks in Vienna and
Brussels with his counterparts from several EU members and countries
which will join the Union on 1 May.
Sanader's interlocutors expressed support to Croatia and its bid to
enter the Union, and their opinion is that it is now time to make key
decisions on Croatia's application, Sanader told the Croatian
government at a session on Friday. He added that therefore the
authorities should step up the process of adjusting the national
legislation to EU standards.
During today's session, the government sent three bills from the
package of EU laws to the Sabor to adopt them in an urgent procedure.
One of the bills refers to amendments to the law on state subsidies.
The amendments define the competence of the council for the protection
of market competition as well as the issue of official secret.
The amendments also define more precisely the competence of the agency
for the protection of market competition and say that this body will
be entrusted with approving and controlling the implementation of
state subsidies.
