BRUSSELS, March 25 (Hina) - EU High Representative for Common Foreign
and Security Policy Javier Solana and Slovene Foreign Minister Anton
Rop met in Brussles on Thursday to discuss the situation in Southeast
Europe, notably Kosovo.#L#
Slovenia is an important country because of the role it has and will
have in the region, Solana said after the talks. He reiterated the
message he gave during his visit to Kosovo on Wednesday, namely that
the UN-administered province must be a multiethnic society in which
minorities would be able to live freely.
The EU High Representative said the European Union cannot be held
responsible for the violence in Kosovo, adding that the Union had
invested a lot of money in the province.
Asked about who was behind the violence in Kosovo, Solana said the
violence partially erupted spontaneously, adding however, that some
individuals used that to organise violence. He said those individuals
most probably belonged to political parties
Rop said Slovenia was ready to assume its share of responsibility to
defuse the situation in the region.
