What happened last week was orchestrated by a group of extremists from
the Albanian community and that is unacceptable, he said. Those
incidents are disgraceful and they must be condemned, Scheffer told a
press conference.
He held talks with the most senior official of the international
community in Kosovo, representatives of Kosovo's institutions and the
leaders of political parties.
We must bear in mind why KFOR is present in the province, Scheffer
said and added that its task was to protect each Kosovo citizen.
The NATO secretary General called on the heads of the Albanian
community in Kosovo to condemn the violence and to do all they could
to re-establish the trust.
After talks with Scheffer, Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova said that
in cooperation with the UN Mission in Kosovo, Kosovo institutions
would do their best to calm the situation.
