The visit of Sanader, who will be accompanied by Culture Minister Bozo
Biskupic, the architect Bogdan Bogdanovic who designed the central
monument in the memorial park, and foreign diplomats, is scheduled for
16 March on the occasion of the completion of the renovation of the
central monument, i.e. Stone Flower.
The monument was designed by Bogdanovic in 1966. Being exposed to
weather for 37 years, it was damaged to some extent. In July 2003 the
reconstruction began and the Culture Ministry appropriated 1.4 million
kuna for this purpose, the Jasenovac Memorial Centre's head, Natasa
Jovicic said, During the renovation, experts consulted Bogadnovic.
"Through the restoration of the Monument, the tribute is again paid to
the victims, and Boganovic's message is that the commemoration of
victims must be permanently repeated without insulting anybody and
without calling for revenge or concealing the truth, Jovicic said.
She went on to say that the Croatian Culture Ministry had earmarked 15
million kuna from 1997 to 2003 for the museum within the Jasenovac
Memorial Centre.
