The decree, adopted at a session in the eastern city of Osijek, also
stipulates that all food products for people and cattle containing
more than 0.9 percent of GMOs must visibly state so.
The government set up a national irrigation commission headed by Prime
Minister Ivo Sanader, who said that the government intends to tackle
the irrigation project very seriously because it is of strategic
importance, like road-building.
The government also set up an advisory council for the agricultural
policy. The 14-member body is headed by a member of the National
Academy of Arts and Sciences, Milan Maceljski.
The government sent to parliament a bill envisaging the introduction
of registration stamps for flour in about three months' time with a
view to stepping up control of the flour market. Sanader is confident
the introduction of the stamps will bring 30-35 million kuna into the
national budget in the first year alone.
The government announced amendments to the Food Law under which the
Food Agency would relocate its headquarters from Zagreb to Osijek.
