as head of the Counterintelligence Agency (POA).#L#
The story of Turek's dismissal became public last month following
press allegations about the government's dissatisfaction with the
performance of secret services, notably POA, in tracing fugitive
general Ante Gotovina who is wanted by the war crimes tribunal in The
Hague.
On that occasion the press cited unofficial sources saying that nobody
from the government had talked with the chiefs of security services
and that the chiefs knew nothing about the government being unhappy
with their efforts to arrest Gotovina.
Today, citing unofficial sources, the print media said Turek was
expected to be relieved of his duties on Monday, and that an agreement
on that was reached by President Stjepan Mesic and Prime Minister Ivo
Sanader three days ago.
Some newspapers said Turek could be replaced by Josko Podbovsek from
the Intelligence Agency.
