"I could testify about that because I visited Knin with a group of
opposition representatives and talked to General Cermak several days
after the liberation of Knin, " Mesic told reporters during a visit to
a Zagreb primary school on Monday.
Cermak was in charge of the functioning of municipal services and did
not command any troops. Considering his duties in Knin, one can expect
that he will not be punished, Mesic said when asked to comment on
unofficial information about the government having received from the
UN war crimes tribunal indictments against Cermak and Mladen Markac
and an amended indictment against General Ante Gotovina.
Mesic said he would meet Prime Minister Ivo Sanader during the day to
discuss the reports.
