ZAGREB, Feb 25 (Hina) - The executive boards of branches of the
Croatian Journalists' Association (HND) and the Journalists' Trade
Union in Croatian Television (HTV) on Wednesday issued a statement
saying that they were dissatisfied with the fact that two weeks after
the establishment of the Culture Ministry's commission in charge of
amending the law on Croatian Radio and Television (HRT), the public
had not yet been informed about the results, namely the proposals on
which sections of the existent law should be amended.#L#
Representatives of the union and the association call on the Council
of Europe and the OSCE Mission in Croatia to say whether, when and on
the basis of what arguments they had concluded that it was necessary
to urgently change the law on HRT as an important pre-condition for
Croatia's entry into the Euroepan Union.
They call on the Croatian parliament and government to say, before the
debate on the amendments to the law, whether they have a fair idea
about the programmes and the role of public radio and television in
the contemporary Europe and its importance for democracy, civil
society, the protection of national interests and other standards
