"The gentlemen who left the party were the most responsible for the
poor electoral results in Zagreb," said deputy mayor Stipe Tojcic,
also of the HNS.
Tojcic said he was ready to "bear the brunt" in the Zagreb branch of
the HNS, assume the responsibility for Zagreb and "face" Milan Bandic
at local elections. He said Bandic had already announced a campaign
for elections due to take place in more than a year's time.
Tojcic said he would run for president of the HNS Zagreb branch if the
party supported him.
The HNS will lose two seats in the Zagreb City Assembly following the
leaving of 14 Zagreb branch members. The decision on who will succeed
Mislav Zagar in heading the city institute for development planning
and environmental protection is yet to be made.
