Environmental protection is very important to Croatia and one of the
priorities of the ministry is the removal of problems concerning waste
management, the minister said.
The ministry and the UNDP are cooperating on several projects, which
are financed jointly by the Global Environment Fund and the Croatian
government.
The projects refer to the preservation of bio diversity through
integral management of the coastal area, the removal of obstacles to
energy efficiency in the services sector and households, climate, and
the inventorying of greenhouse gases.
The UNDP conducted the drawing up of national sustainable development
strategies in several European transition countries, within the
Capacity 21 project.
Croatia is expected to draw up its own sustainable development
strategy by 2005, a process in which the UNDP can offer advisory
assistance, the ministry said in a statement.
