SARAJEVO, Jan 28(Hina) - The Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina has rejected a
request for the provisional release from custody of Ante Jelavic,
Miroslav Prce and Miroslav Rupcic, Court President Martin Raguz said
on Wednesday.#L#
The Court rejected as unacceptable the request filed by the lawyers
for the accused, citing the risk of escape and the possibility of
exerting pressure on witnesses.
The three men were arrested on January 23 on suspicion of
mismanagement of funds from the Hercegovacka Banka bank in Mostar. At
the request of the State Prosecutor, the Court issued a ruling
ordering that they be held in custody for one month. The suspects are
currently being held in the Kula prison near Sarajevo in the Bosnian
Serb entity.
Also on Wednesday, the upper chamber of the parliament of the Bosnian
Muslim-Croat federation supported a request by members of the Croatian
Democratic Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina (HDZ BH) that a special
commission be set up to look into the circumstances of the arrest of
Jelavic, Prce and Rupcic.
The HDZ BH suspects that the arrest of the three men and their
treatment by the Federation police were against the law.
