ZAGREB, Jan 26(Hina) - The Croatian Parliament's Committee for the
Constitution, the Rule Book and the Parliamentary System on Monday
unanimously supported amendments to the law regulating pay for judges
and other judicial officials, under which they would not receive a
monthly bonus of 0.5 per cent per year of service.#L#
The amendments were proposed because no funds were envisaged for this
purpose in the Decision on Temporary Financing for the first quarter
of the year.
The Committee endorsed an amendment proposed by Mato Arlovic of the
Social Democratic Party (SDP), binding the government to secure funds
for the payment of bonuses from this year's national budget, which is
expected to be adopted by parliament in April.
It was said that a total of 60 million kuna (approximately 7.8 million
euros) would have to be earmarked annually from the national budget to
pay bonuses for 2,426 judges.
