At the meeting with cadets, Jezerinac recalled that "with the
establishment of the free and independent Croatian state in early
1991, religious freedoms were promoted, and seven years ago, namely on
25 April 1997, the military diocese for the spiritual counselling of
Catholics in the Croatian police and military was founded".
He went on to say that by offering values from the ethical, moral and
social teaching of the Church and other sciences, the military diocese
would try to help those to be trained at the academy in coming years
to become completely spiritually mature too.
It is necessary for soldiers and officers to have personal courage to
win on the battlefield as well as in the spiritual area, the dignitary
said quoting the Blessed Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac who had also held
a speech at the same academy saying that every officer should be in
awe of God, their families and themselves.
