Conditions for long-lived plantations in Croatia are good, but due to
the farming policy in the past century areas covered by plantations
were constantly growing smaller, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said at a
government session on Thursday.
With annual wine consumption of 25 litres per capita Croatia is at the
bottom of the European list, it was said at the session.
Croatia imports one half of the required quantity of apples, 70
percent of the required quantity of peaches and 80 percent of the
required quantity of pears. Annual food imports total US1.5 billion.
