The Croatian Roads company was instructed to launch the project and
include it in its business plan for 2004, the Minister of the Sea,
Tourism, Transport and Development, Bozidar Kalmeta, said at a
government session at which new members of the Commission for the
Construction of Public Roads were appointed.
The Komarna-Peljesac bridge is compatible with and it does not
represent competition with the construction of the highway through
Neum, Sanader said and stressed that good relations with neighbouring
Bosnia-Herzegovina were one of his government's priorities.
A section of the Dubrovnik-Split highway would pass through Neum and
the construction of the Komarna-Peljesac bridge is aimed at
revitalising the south of the country and pulling Peljesac and the
islands out of isolation, Sanader said.
Minister Kalmeta said 177 kilometres of the Zagreb-Split highway and
210 kilometres of state roads would be constructed this year.
The government appointed Prime Minister Sanader head of the Commission
for the Construction of Public Roads.
