After visiting the monastery in western Kosovo, Fini said Kosovo needed a European solution and that the European Union should actively participate in negotiations on the future of the UN-administered province.
"The Kosovo issue does not concern only Albanians, Serbs and others living here, but is also a European issue."
Fini said he and the monastery dignitaries had not addressed politics but spoken of the monastery's significance, which he added was known around the world.
Bishop Teodosije thanked the Italian government for the protection of monasteries and Serb enclaves in Kosovo which Italian troops within the Kosovo Force had been providing for six years.
