ZAGREB, Dec 27 (Hina) - Leaders of civil servants' unions appealed
on members of the public on Tuesday not to use the services of state
administration bodies tomorrow because the unions would organise a day-long
strike to protest against low salaries and the poor status of civil servants
and employees. Four unions will go on strike because the government
has rejected a request for a permanent monthly bonus of 300 kuna for all civil
servants and employees, which would temporarily stop their salaries from
lagging behind those in public services, and has not adopted decrees on higher
coefficients and bonuses on special working conditions.
The unionists appealed to members of the public to show understanding
and patience because the strike was not against them but the government, which
they said was socially insensitive.
