SDSS members Dragan Jerkovic and Sonja Kosijer were elected new members of the town government.
Apart from one SDSS member, the other seven councillors of this party had boycotted sessions of the Town Council for six months, claiming that they were dissatisfied with the distribution of posts in the town government and the ignoring of their election results.
The SDSS has the most, eight, councillors in the 17-member Town Council, with the ruling coalition being made up of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and the Social Liberal Party (HSLS), the Croatian Bloc and the Party of Rights (HSP). These parties signed a coalition agreement in June thus securing a majority in the Town Council.
Contrary to what was announced before the session, the Town Council did not elect the third deputy mayor, who was expected to be elected from among SDSS councillors. The Town Council, however, adopted changes to the town statute in line with the Law on Local Self-Government Units which stipulates that towns can have more than two deputy mayors.
The SDSS expects that the third deputy mayor will be elected from among its ranks at the next session of the Town Council.
