Another reason for the conference is the latest report by the Croatian Helsinki Committee on Human Rights, which read that human rights deteriorated over the last year, notably because of increasing violence and intolerance, said Ivica Racan, the president of the strongest opposition party, adding the SDP shared the opinion stated in the report.
Racan said the conference was aimed at making 2006 a step forward in the protection of human rights and at strengthening civil society as one of the pillars of an equal democratic society.
He added the SDP would continue to contribute to the protection of human rights and particularly promote citizens' social rights.
