"I can't make any comment on that. You will see on Monday," the minister told the press at a convention of her Democratic Centre party, declining to either confirm or deny the existence of the letter.
Slobodna Dalmacija daily said today that if what del Ponte said in the letter she allegedly delivered to the Croatian government was true, Gotovina, arrested in Spain earlier this week after more than four years in hiding, might be released pending trial at the Hague war crimes tribunal after being arraigned on Monday or Tuesday.
Citing an unidentified former senior state official, the newspaper said the government was expected to "activate" del Ponte's alleged letter, namely remind her of it, as early as Monday.
