Protesters burnt car tyres and fell trees to block traffic on sections of the road between Zadar and Pakostane, Gotovina's hometown, and one between Zadar and Benkovac.
Two traffic accidents occurred as a result of roadblocks, one in Biograd and the other outside Pakostane. There were no casualties.
Thanks to rapid responses from local fire brigades, road maintenance workers and police, the roads were cleared and traffic was restored to normal.
Cases of refuse containers being set on fire, bus shelters being demolished and Molotov cocktails being thrown onto the streets were reported in Zadar, Biograd, Bibinje, Sveti Filip i Jakov, and Pakostane. No one was injured.
The Zadar Police Department appealed to citizens to refrain from violence in expressing their protest and to abide by the law as such incidents could seriously threaten public safety.
