ZAGREB, Dec 8 (Hina) - Croatia's request for permission to
increase its quota of greenhouse gas emissions will be addressed on Friday
evening at the 11th UN conference on climate change which is taking place in
Montreal, Canada, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Regional Planning
and Construction said in a statement on Thursday. The conference was
addressed by the Ministry's State Secretary Nikola Ruzinski, who spoke of
Croatia's views and how it could contribute to climate protection.
Ruzinski underlined the importance of increasing the greenhouse gas
emission quota for Croatia's development, noting that the present quota was
below the country's realistic needs and that it presented a problem for the
development of the energy sector.
During his visit to Montreal, Ruzinski had several bilateral meetings
with heads of delegations from the European Union, Austria and Great Britain,
officials from several European and South American countries and with Canadian
hosts.
