LJUBLJANA, Dec 5 (Hina) - Croatia supports an efficient Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Croatian Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic said at a news conference at the end of the first day of a two-day OSCE ministerial conference in Ljubljana on Monday.

Grabar Kitarovic said Croatia would not side with any member-country with regard to differences in views on the OSCE's activities, which could be heard at today's debate. Croatia supports compromise solutions and an efficient OSCE, she said.

The minister said that she had received congratulations from many officials on Croatia's cooperation with the OSCE Mission, which shows that Croatia has proven to be a credible international partner, the minister said.

Asked about her talks with Nicholas Burns, head of the US delegation attending the conference, Grabar Kitarovic said the talks were positive and constructive and focused on cooperation in global security, regional cooperation and Croatia's integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions. She added that Croatia was ready to help the international community ensure that Iraq started functioning as a law-based state.

There were no requests for the deployment of Croatian soldiers to Iraq at the talks, the minister said.

Asked about Croatia's position on Kosovo's final status, the minister said that the best solution would be one arrived at peacefully, through dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade.

The Croatian minister today met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to discuss bilateral relations and the situation in the region. The two ministers discussed trade, the Druzba-Adria oil pipeline project, and the position of the Croatian public on the matter, especially the environmental aspects of the project. The two ministers did not discuss any concrete steps.

Earlier in the day Grabar Kitarovic met the Irish delegation attending the conference.

The Ljubljana conference, which continues on Tuesday, will end with the adoption of a final document, which requires overcoming differences among member-countries, notably differences concerning the character of OSCE missions in individual countries.
