Croatia beat Slovakia 3-2 in Bratislava during the weekend to win the Davis Cup for the first time. They are only the 12th
nation to win the oldest and most prestigious title in more than 100 years of the competition's history. Croatia is the first unseeded country to win the Davis Cup.
From a makeshift stage, set up in Zagreb's central Ban Jelacic Square, Croatian singers were warming up the crowd as they were waiting for Ivan Ljubicic, Mario Ancic, Goran Ivanisevic, Ivo Karlovic and the entire team to arrive.
Emotions erupted after the world tennis champions climbed onto the stage.
"This is a victory of the team, a victory for Croatia," said Ancic.
State television broadcast the event live from the moment the players arrived in Zagreb on a Croatian Airlines flight from Vienna.
