The Federation on Thursday issued a press release thanking everybody who tried over recent months to help solve the status of this famous Croatian swimmer, who took the silver medal in the 50-meter sprint at the Athens Olympics, and won a bronze at the world championships in Indianapolis.
The Federation goes on to say that it thanks Duje Draganja for everything he has done for Croatian swimming and sports and wishes him success in further career.
The case of Duje Draganja grabbed the limelight when this young swimmer, born in 1983 in the Croatian coastal city of Split, announced a possibility of accepting an offer from Qatar to swim for that Arab country at the next Olympic Games.
After mulling over the decision for some time, Draganja stated on Wednesday that he decided to take Qatari citizenship as he could not be given satisfactory conditions in Croatia.
