ZAGREB, Nov 22 (Hina) - Croatian Justice Minister Vesna Skare
Ozbolt on Tuesday met OSCE Mission chief in Croatia Jorge Fuentes and Croatian
Journalists Association representative Gordana Grbic to acquaint them with
draft changes to the Criminal Code abolishing prison sentences for insult and
defamation. The draft changes, which will be sent to the government
this week, envisage the abolishment of prison sentences for the criminal act of
insult and defamation and another twenty criminal acts from the Criminal Code,
the Justice Ministry said in a statement.
The minister had announced changes to regulations on defamation last
week, after courts imposed prison sentences with a period of probation on a
reporter for Novi List daily, Slavica Mrkic Modric, and writer Predrag
Matvejevic.
