THE HAGUE/ZAGREB, Nov 7 (Hina) - The trial of the Vukovar Three before the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague resumed on Monday with a testimony by protected witness code-named P-013.

The witness said that on 20 November 1991 the then Yugoslav People's Army separated and took men from the hospital in Vukovar, and that one of the victims who were taken from the hospital was her husband.

She added that she and her husband "who was a disabled man and who had not fought" took shelter in the hospital when the JNA overran Vukovar on 17 November. They had spent three days in the hospital's cellar and on 20 November were ordered by JNA officers to leave the shelter.

The witness said that the entire operation of the hospital's "evacuation" was commanded by indictee Veselin Sljivancanin.

The witness spoke of standing behind Sljivancanin as JNA soldiers were separating men from women and children and escorting them into buses parked in the yard.

The witness said that after that she had never heard anything about her husband who was still on a list of missing persons.

Mile Mrksic, Veselin Sljivancanin and Miroslav Radic are charged with eight counts of crimes against humanity and violations of the laws and customs of war committed through persecution, extermination, killing, torture and cruel and inhumane treatment. The initial indictment against them was issued on 7 November 1995, and they are now being tried under a third, joined and amended indictment of 15 November 2004. The charges refer to the imprisonment, torture and killing of at least 264 wounded persons, patients and civilians from the Vukovar Hospital at the Ovcara farm outside the town on 20 November 1991.
