Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Dinko Cvitan will fill the post until the appointment of a new director of USKOK, the brief statement said without specifying the personal reasons for which Zganjer had asked to be relieved.
Martina Mihordin, a spokeswoman for the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, declined to give any more details, while USKOK officials told Hina that Zganjer was busy. Bajic was also unavailable for comment.
USKOK was established in 2001 with Zganjer, former county prosecutor in Sibenik, becoming its head in September 2002.
Under the law, a director of USKOK is appointed by the Chief Public Prosecutor for a four-year term, with the prior opinion of the Minister of Justice and the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
