Santiago is honored to receive the Croatian president and as a proof of true friendship declare him an honorary citizen of our city, Alcain said.
He said Croatia's aspirations to address war crimes in a just manner and its openness towards the international community show country's desire for progress and social harmony. The mayor added that Croatia was active in the region and the international community.
Mesic thanked the mayor and said Santiago and Zagreb should develop stronger cooperation as the one existing on the state level.
Both Mesic and Alcain stressed the fact that a large number of Croatians live in Santiago.
"We are proud of the contribution Croatia's made to the cultural, Church, political and social life of this city and the country," Mesic said.
