Since the start of the defence case on 31 August 2004, Milosevic has spent 70 per cent of the 150 business days allocated for his defence, calling only 40 witnesses, mainly in connection with charges from the Kosovo indictment.
Milosevic on Tuesday asked for permission to call an additional 199 witnesses over an additional 100 business days, including 74 witnesses for the indictment relating to Croatia and 106 for Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The accused opposed the trial chamber's position, saying that it was unfair and restricting his procedural rights.
The trial continued on Thursday with the cross-examination of witness Milos Djosan, a retired Yugoslav army general who commanded a garrison during the war in Kosovo in the late 1990s.
