"We exchanged views on the latest positive developments for Croatia," Sanader told reporters after the meeting, adding that he thanked the Hungarian government for its "clear and consistent support" for Croatia's EU membership bid.
"We did not discuss bilateral relations between Hungary and Croatia. They are good and will be discussed during Prime Minister Gyurcsany's official visit to Croatia," Sanader said.
"I asked the Hungarian prime minister, and I will also ask other colleagues from Central Europe, to continue actively supporting Croatia during the negotiation phase as they have so far," the Croatian prime minister said.
He added that Croatia would ask Central European countries for expert assistance on its path to the European Union. "We want to achieve even better cooperation with those countries and that will help us to complete the EU accession talks more effectively."
Gyurcsany said he was confident that Croatia's progress towards EU membership would be "fast and successful" thanks to the commitment of the government of Prime Minister Sanader. "The ultimate goal is not the start of the talks but Croatia's membership in the European Union," he added.
