Jovic was remanded in custody last Thursday after the Hague war crimes tribunal issued a warrant for his arrest because he had failed to appear before the tribunal on 26 September to plead to contempt of court charges.
Judge Cambi also issued a security measure for Jovic to ensure his appearance at the Hague tribunal.
Jovic told reporters outside the prison compound that he would fight for his freedom and for his rights as well as for the integrity of the rule of law.
Asked when he would travel to The Hague, Jovic said he did not know yet, and added that he expected another order to be issued.
Jovic's lawyer Vinko Ljubicic said that his client would certainly abide by the court decision and appear at the Hague tribunal when he received an order to do so. He also said that it was not yet known when Jovic would travel to The Hague.
"Jovic is going to The Hague as a completely free man," Ljubicic said.
Jovic was charged with contempt on 9 September for making public the identity and testimony of a protected witness in the trial of former Bosnian Croat commander Tihomir Blaskic. The information was published in the Split-based Slobodna Dalmacija daily at the time when Jovic was editor-in-chief.
