VIENNA, Oct 8 (Hina) - Croatian General Ante Gotovina must
surrender to the UN tribunal in The Hague which has charged him with war
crimes, Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said on the Austrian radio station
ORF on Saturday, according to Agence France-Presse. "Gotovina must
surrender to The Hague (tribunal). There's no alternative," said Sanader.
"This isn't just Croatia's international obligation, but also an
internal commitment which regards the rule of law in Croatia. The accused must
appear in court," he said, adding "the trial will prove whether he is guilty or
not".
Washington said yesterday the United States would block Croatia's bid
for NATO membership unless it transferred the fugitive general to the UN
court.
