Zlatko Jelic and Ivica Livaja, former members of the Military Police 72nd Battalion, both said that apart from what they learned from the media and from other people they had no other knowledge of abuse and torture of prisoners at Lora, which at the time was a military investigation prison.
Livaja, who took part in an investigation following the attempted escape of prisoner Nenad Knezevic, with whose murder the accused are charged, described the treatment of prisoners at Lora as "appropriate".
Jelic, who at the time worked as a driver in charge of transporting prisoners from the area of Dubrovnik to the Split prison, requested the panel of judges to read out his earlier statements, when he said that the prisoners whom he drove had injuries and that one of them died, but that he had no information on what was going on in the prison, although he heard rumours about prisoners being tortured and abused.
