MOSTAR, Sept 6 (Hina) - Bosnian Civil Affairs Minister Safet
Halilovic on Tuesday asked leaders of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton to stop the
segregation of children in elementary schools based on nationality, saying this
was preventing Bosnia and Herzegovina from joining the European Union. In the cantons of Central Bosnia and Herzegovina-Neretva there are several
schools in which classes are held according to separate Croat and Muslim
curricula.
In a letter to the leaders of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Halilovic
said that Bosnia could be reported to the Council of Europe for this practice
and that this could undermine the country's position regarding the start of
negotiations with the EU or even eliminate any prospect of the negotiations
starting.
The minister called on the cantonal authorities to stop the "two
schools under one roof" practice.
