Wednesday, saying that the 44 people werein two vans with Zagreb licence plates.
VINKOVCI, Aug 24 (Hina) - Vukovar Srijem County police have
arrested 44 people in Vrbanja, close to the state border with Serbia and
Montenegro, spokesman for the Vukovar-Srijem County police department Miroslav
Janic confirmed on Wednesday, saying that the 44 people were in two vans with
Zagreb licence plates. People in the two vans were arrested while
the third van managed to get away, Janic said.
The police arrested 32 Albanians and 12 citizens of Serbia and
Montenegro. Charges against are expected to be filed and the arrested people
should appear before a judge in Zupanja later today.
The investigation established that the 44 people illegally crossed the
state border between Croatia and Serbia and Montenegro on foot. They were to
continue in vans, but the drivers escaped. The spokesman for the police
confirmed that one driver, who is a Croatian citizen, was arrested.
