In an interview for the Bosnian state television network on Thursday evening, Leakey said the international community had increased pressure on the local authorities in order to make Karadzic surrender.
The international community is also exerting pressure on Karadzic's family, not because it wants to humiliate them but because it wants to help the people in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Leakey sad, adding that Karadzic's departure for The Hague was in the interest of his family, Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as the region, since Serbia and Montenegro was also responsible for it.
The EUFOR commander repeated several times that Karadzic had left his country, but he did not say where he could be hiding. Karadzic took tens of millions of convertible marks from the country which he is using to finance his security and lifestyle, Leakey said adding that Karadzic was a disgrace for his country because the money he took could have been spent on salaries and pensions.
The EUFOR commander also criticised another fugitive, former Bosnian Serb army commander Ratko Mladic, for having abandoned his country and people.
