The Austrian Justice Ministry told RTL that documents received from the Croatian State Prosecutor's Office were being translated after which it would be decided whether or not there was enough evidence for a trial.
Asner (92) is suspected of committing war crimes against Jews in Pozega in 1941 and 1942 when he was the head of the Ustasha police regime. He fled to Asutria after World War II and returned to Croatia in 1991. the day the Simon Wiesenthal Centre filed criminal charges against him, he fled back to Austria.
Given that Asner has both Croatia and Austrian citizenship, he cannot be extradited to a third country according to the Austrian law, RTL said.
