According to a statement from the Bosnian ministry, the Bosnian embassy in Belgrade is expected to deliver a copy of the protest note to the Serbian foreign ministry and to immediately contact the Serbian justice ministry in order to obtain an explanation of reason why Serbia issued the warrant for Divjak's apprehension.
Also on Friday, Minister Alkalaj held talks with his Austrian counterpart Michael Spindelegger as Bosnia is asking Austria too for an explanation of the case.
Bosnian Ambassador to Austria Haris Hrle said that an Austrian investigating judge had set two-week extradition detention for the retired general and that in this period Serbia should forward documentation corroborating its request for the handover of the Bosnian citizen to Belgrade.
Bosnian prosecutorial authorities today sent a proposal to Vienna for Divjak's transfer to Bosnia and Herzegovina given that he is its citizen and given that the alleged crimes were committed on its soil.
Although there is no official confirmation yet, it is assumed that Divjak was arrested due to Serbia's accusations that he committed alleged war crimes against retreating Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) troops in Dobrovoljacka Street in Sarajevo on 3 May 1992. While the JNA army, which supported the Serb forces, was keeping the first Bosnian president Alija Izetbegovic hostage, a conflict erupted between the forces that were defending the city and a column of retreating JNA soldiers.
