Since Avdic failed to inform other members of the delegation that he was preparing the declaration, the Serb representatives refused to support it.
Tihomir Gligoric, a member of the delegation from the Bosnian Serb entity, accused Avdic of causing a scandal by lobbying for signatures of support among deputies from other countries, while members of the Bosnian delegation were unable to reach agreement on the document.
Avdic dismissed the accusations, stating that it was not his intention to favour any of Bosnia's peoples. He said he expected the declaration to be adopted, although for the time being there is no consensus on the matter in the Bosnian delegation.
The President of the Parliamentary Assembly, Rene van der Linden, said the declaration on Srebrenica would be discussed by the end of the session. The document condemns crimes committed in the area of the former UN protected area in eastern Bosnia, where Serb army and police forces killed around 8,000 Muslims on July 10-19, 1995.
