BERLIN, June 17 (Hina) - European Commission Vice-President
Guenther Verheugen said in an interview with the Rheinische Post newspaper of
Friday that the European Union must not stop its enlargement process with
regard to Romania and Bulgaria, and Croatia and Turkey. We have to
resist the populist wave which is now bringing the enlargement process into
question, Verheugen said, warning about the possible change of course regarding
Turkey, which is expected to start accession talks in October.
The goal of the talks must be Turkey's full membership, Verheugen said,
adding that other solutions should not be ruled out either.
