They urged the two countries' presidents to take the necessary measures to protect the integrity of the Croat community in the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina and to see to it that Serbian institutions stop supporting "quasi-scientific and politically anachronistic and anti-civilsational endeavours" to make an artificial division among the Croat community in the region of northern Backa with the aim of facilitating the assimilation of Vojvodina Croats.
Some 40 signatories warned that people who identify themselves as Bunjevci are given a lot of space in the media for their promotion and facilities for their activities, and are allowed to falsify voter registers. At the same time, Croats in Vojvodina are deprived of such support, according to the letter.
