The director for communications at the International Centre for Migration Policy and Development, Gerda Pheurmann, said that regional cooperation was one of the priorities in successfully preventing human trafficking.
She added that in regional cooperation it was very important to adopt uniform standards in all areas, on the local, national and regional levels, as well as define activities to be taken in combating human trafficking.
The Croatian delegation was led by the chief of the government's Human Rights Office and national coordinator for the prevention of human trafficking, Luka Madjeric, who spoke of the drafting of Croatia's national programme for the prevention of human trafficking, an accompanying operational plan, and the government's activities in this field in the next six months.
Madjeric said it was necessary to improve the exchange of statistical data on victims of human trafficking, adding the Croatian government released such data on the web page of the Human Rights Office. He said this was recognised as a significant step and might be followed by other countries in the region.
